Building a house
A Checklist for Buyers

Checklist for BuyersBuilding a custom home can be one of life’s greatest experiences.  To have a home that has been designed for your individual needs and tastes is an amazing luxury and a luxury that is within reach for most aspiring to live in Aspen Glen.  The three most critical choices that must be made when building a custom home starts with your Realtor®.  Your Realtor® should know how to help you select a home site that fits your needs and will compliment your home’s desired design.  Second, selecting a builder that is familiar with your new communities standards and has a reputation for a great finished product and timely on budget work is crucial.  Finally, finding an Architect/Designer that can work with you to help you achieve your desired look and feel for you new home is also critical.

Building a custom home in Aspen Glen is a rewarding process, one that can be marked by a sense of becoming a part of a community and a habitat.  Aspen Glen is home to herds of Elk and many other Colorado native species including our very own nesting family of Bald Eagles.  Building “green” is a growing trend in this country and Carbondale particularly.  There are several main methods for achieving a “green” home.  One is by using alternate sources of heating and electrical generation by using solar panels.  Another way of “green” building is through the processes of construction.  The easiest and most cost effective way is by using panelized wall systems for both the framing and foundation.  Using panelized construction can save huge on lumber waste.  Each section of wall for your custom home is built off site in a controlled environment where only the exact amount of lumber needed is used.  The third main method for building “green” is through using environmentally friendly materials and products.  Examples of these types of products include Bamboo flooring, low VOC paint, water wise fixtures, high efficiency boilers for in floor heat, mini-split A/C units, wool carpeting, low emissive windows and energy star appliances.

Building a HouseIn today’s economic climate building a custom home has never made more sense.  In most cases a brand new custom home could cost less to build today than buying existing housing stock that was built at peak construction pricing and land pricing.
